Gesso is what makes paint stay where you put it. Mont Marte White Gesso primes and seals canvas, paper, board and other semi-porous surfaces, leaving a flexible matte finish with enough tooth for oil and acrylic to grip rather than sink in.
Why prime with gesso
- Gives a slightly toothed surface so paint adheres properly
- Seals porous surfaces, so colour stays on top rather than soaking through
- Flexible matte finish that will not crack with the canvas
- Can be sanded between coats for a smooth surface suited to detail work
- Can be thinned with water

How to use it
- Apply 2 to 3 thin coats rather than one thick one
- Sand lightly between coats if you want a smooth surface for detail work
- Scoop into a separate container rather than working from the tub, and use a clean tool each time to avoid contaminating it
- Seal and close the lid tightly after use

Common questions
How many coats of gesso do I need?
Two to three thin coats. One thick coat dries unevenly and is more likely to crack.
Can gesso be thinned?
Yes, with water. Thin it for a smoother first coat on absorbent paper.
Do I need gesso on a pre-primed canvas?
Not strictly, though an extra coat gives a smoother surface and more consistent tooth, which matters for detailed work.

What does delivery cost and how fast is it?
Delivery is free on orders of AED 300 and above. Orders above AED 100 and below AED 300 ship at AED 12, and orders of AED 100 or less at AED 20. Order before 1:00 PM UAE time for next-day delivery anywhere in the UAE, Dubai and all other Emirates alike. We deliver within the UAE only.

Yes. Pickup is free from Sheikha Noora Tower, 1st Floor, 109, Barsha Heights, Dubai, open Monday to Sunday, 9:30 AM to 9:00 PM.

What is the returns policy?
